Eric Robertson, Board Certified Family Law Attorney at Goranson Bain Ausley's Austin office

About Eric Robertson

Eric Robertson is a family law attorney in Goranson Bain Ausley’s Austin office and a partner with more than 30 years of experience in family law. Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1997, he serves business owners, professionals, and individuals through high-net-worth and complex divorces — primarily as a divorce coach, mediator, and arbitrator, drawing on graduate training in mental health counseling alongside three decades of legal practice. His purpose is to help people adapt to the uncertainty and discomfort of family law transitions and teach divorce survival skills.

Eric’s current focus on divorce coaching, mediation, and arbitration represents the culmination of his career in family law. His caseload draws on deep expertise in complex property division, business valuation, contested custody, and the financial structures that define high-net-worth divorce — but his goal is to help clients resolve those cases efficiently, often outside the courtroom. He works alongside other GBA attorneys as part of a client’s divorce team and brings additional support for families coping with mental health or addiction issues during separation.

Eric works with each client to reduce stress, restore a sense of control, and reach better outcomes — through clearer communication, healthier decisions, and creative solutions that resolve cases efficiently outside the courtroom where possible. In coaching and mediation engagements, he focuses on the practical issues that make or break a settlement: realistic expectations, sustainable parenting plans, and the financial structures that will hold up after the case ends.

Beyond the Practice

After three decades of practice, Eric returned to graduate school to complete an M.A. in Mental Health Counseling at Seminary of the Southwest. The shift was deliberate. As he describes it, the goal is to “offer a different level of care” — drawing on training in psychology, mental health, and addiction counseling, alongside his family law experience, to support clients through the emotional reality of divorce as well as the legal one. His work as a divorce coach, mediator, and arbitrator is the culmination of that integration.
