About Tom Trahan

Tom Trahan helps individuals and families navigate divorce, child custody, property division, and other family law matters. He joined Goranson Bain Ausley as an attorney in 2024. 

Tom understands that family law matters often arrive during periods of significant uncertainty and change. Having personally experienced both divorce and a child custody case, he brings a genuine appreciation for the challenges clients face and the importance of having clear, practical guidance throughout the process. Clients value his ability to listen carefully, answer questions directly, and provide a realistic understanding of what to expect.

Tom handles the full range of family law matters, from cases resolved through negotiation and settlement to those requiring courtroom advocacy. He believes that early preparation, clear communication, and realistic expectations help clients make informed decisions and often create opportunities for more efficient and constructive resolutions. When litigation becomes necessary, he approaches each case with thorough preparation and a focus on protecting his clients’ interests.

Tom’s goal is to help clients move through difficult transitions with confidence, understanding, and a clear path forward. Whether guiding a client through settlement discussions or representing them in court, he works to ensure they have the information and support they need to make decisions that are right for them and their families.

• Property Division. Counsel in dividing the marital estate, including the characterization of separate and community property and the financial questions that decide how assets are split.
• Negotiated and Agreed Divorce. Settlement-focused representation for spouses working toward a constructive, out-of-court resolution.
• Litigated Divorce. Prepared courtroom representation when a case cannot be settled.

Recognition and Credentials

He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts, with honors and special honors in Economics, from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the Collin County Bar Association and the Dallas Bar Association and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2024.

Beyond the Practice

Tom is active in the communities around Dallas, where he has served two terms as president of his church congregation and as president of the Coppell Lions Club.

Outside of his practice, Tom is the father of four and a grandfather. He enjoys classic films and crossword puzzles, and has completed more than ten half marathons.
