Mona Hosseiny Tovar represents individuals and families through divorce, child custody, adoption, and other family law matters. She is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and trained in Collaborative Divorce. Her clients often come to her at an uncertain moment wanting to protect their children, understand their rights and options, and make good decisions about what comes next.

Mona works with clients across a range of family law matters, with experience serving LGBTQ+ and multicultural families. Her work includes divorce, parenting rights, custody, adoption, and family formation. As a parent in an LGBTQ+ family herself, Mona brings personal understanding to these matters, along with the legal experience to help clients protect their children, their parental rights, and their future.

Fluent in Farsi, Mona also understands how cultural expectations, family dynamics, and different approaches to communication and conflict can affect divorce and parenting decisions in multicultural families. Before focusing her practice exclusively on family law, she practiced immigration and criminal law for seven years, experience that provides a useful perspective when a family law matter intersects with those areas.

Mona’s family law practice includes:

• LGBT Divorce. Same-sex divorce is central to Mona’s practice. She guides couples through property, custody, and enforcement, from uncontested filings to contested litigation.
• Adoption and Family Formation. Mona helps LGBTQ+ couples and individuals grow their families through adoption. Second-parent adoptions, which give both parents full legal standing, are a core part of this work.
• LGBT Parenting Rights. She helps LGBT parents establish and protect their legal rights to their children, whatever path formed their family.
• Child Custody. Mona represents parents in custody, conservatorship, and SAPCR matters, including high-conflict cases and termination of parental rights.
• Modification and Enforcement. Enforcement is a stated focus for Mona. She acts to modify or enforce custody, support, and possession orders when circumstances change.
• Child Support. Mona advises parents on establishing and modifying child support, including the recent Texas guideline changes she has written about.

She is a member of the Dallas Bar Association Family Law Section and the Dallas LGBT Bar Association.

Mona also contributes to the education of the Texas legal community through writing and speaking. She has presented on family law for LGBTQ+ families at the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting and participated in a Collaborative Divorce Texas program addressing cultural considerations in divorce. Her involvement reflects a broader interest in how family structure, culture, and individual circumstances can affect the way families experience divorce and custody matters.

She co-authored a paper on motion for summary judgment evidence for the State Bar of Texas 39th Annual Advanced Evidence and Discovery course and presented with the Honorable Kim Brown at the 2026 Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Bench Bar Conference. She has also delivered continuing legal education presentations to paralegal audiences, including the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division and the Texas Advanced Paralegal Seminar.

Beyond the Practice

Before becoming a lawyer, Mona began her career in the film and television industry in Los Angeles after studying radio, television, and film at the University of Texas at Austin. Away from her practice, she spends time with her wife and children.
