Gary L. Nickelson, a partner at Goranson Bain Ausley, has been named to Fort Worth Inc. magazine’s 500 Most Influential People of 2026 list, an annual recognition honoring leaders who make a meaningful impact in their profession and throughout the Tarrant County community.
A Fort Worth family lawyer with more than 50 years of experience, Nickelson has practiced family law exclusively throughout his career. He is widely known for handling high-net-worth divorce, complex property division, business valuation disputes, and cases involving closely held businesses.

At Goranson Bain Ausley, Nickelson is recognized as one of Texas’ most respected family law attorneys and has held many of the profession’s highest leadership positions. He previously served as president of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, chair of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, director of the State Bar of Texas, and president of both the Texas chapter and national organization of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Nickelson is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is also a diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only organization limited to 100 family law attorneys nationwide.
His contributions to the field of family law have earned numerous statewide and national honors. In 2006, he received the Sam Emison Award, one of the most distinguished awards in Texas family law, recognizing significant contributions to the practice and profession. In 2003, he received the State Bar of Texas Dan Price Award, one of the Family Law Section’s highest honors.
Most recently, Nickelson was named Best Lawyers© 2025 Family Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Dallas/Fort Worth, recognized as a Top Attorney by Fort Worth Magazine, and honored with the 2024 Texas Bar Foundation Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award. He has also been named a Texas Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters, as published in Texas Monthly magazine, every year since 2003.
